Holiday events bring joy and glad tidings into every one’s hearts. When winter arrives, the tree lined streets of Historic Downtown Cleveland are illuminated with giant snowflakes and much cheer. It’s time for Parades, Tree Lighting, Downtown Shopping, Open House Events, and Carols in the City!  Although it is chillier than other seasons, winter in Cleveland is usually mild and full of things to do. Take a look at some of our favorite Winter Events and make plans to enjoy a special Christmas or an adventurous vacation later in the season.

Christmas on the Square ~ MainStreet Cleveland and Visit Cleveland TN offer a charming Christmas market with workshops and vendors on the Courthouse Square in the hours before the Community Tree Lighting, which takes place at 6 p.m. on Broad Street. After the Tree Lighting, enjoy a downtown walking tour of Historic Downtown Churches featuring Carols in the City. 

MainStreet Cleveland Christmas Parade ~ Local organizations highlight the Christmas season with floats, bands and caroling. Floats feature lights, so parade steps off at 6 p.m. and winds through downtown Cleveland, TN. First Saturday in December. 423-479-1000 

 Christmas at Red Clay ~ Experience a trip back in time and learn about Christmas and Winter Solstice traditions of the Cherokee and settlers at Red clay State Historic Park. Visitors enjoy Cherokee stories, winter chores, cornhusk doll making, as well as cooking demos and Christmas carols. This is a unique time to experience the park by candlelight and learn about old time traditions. 423-478-0339

Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival ~ View thousands of sandhill cranes as they migrate to the Hiwassee River Wildlife Refuge in Birchwood, TN. Third weekend in January.
