Charleston-Calhoun-Hiwassee Historical Society Quarterly Meeting

Join us for the Charleston-Calhoun-Hiwassee Historical Society quarterly meeting with guest storyteller Kathi Littlejohn! Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Hiwassee River Heritage Center.🌱
Littlejohn is an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and lives in the Wolftown Community with her family in Cherokee, North Carolina. She has been telling Cherokee stories for more than 30 years at events, festivals, and schools. She has produced four CDs of Cherokee stories and a series of YouTube videos named “Cherokee History and Stories,” and “What Happened Here?”
The meeting will consist of the following topics:
3:00-3:30 The 1802 Meigs survey line, its retracing in 2009, and the Meigs family and their ties to Bradley County, TN
3:30-3:45 Cherokee Language Speaker’s Consortium—one group’s efforts to preserve the Cherokee language
3:45-4:00 Cherokee Stories
4:00-4:15 Questions/Discussion
Kathi’s husband Leroy Littlejohn will have handmade Cherokee Crafts made from native materials available for sale. He makes spears, wooden hummingbirds, necklaces, and slingshots. Additionally, Kathi’s Cherokee story CDs will be available for purchase.
