Danielle Shelton to Host CCH Historical Society

The CCH Historical Society’s August meeting will feature Danielle Shelton, a PhD. Candidate who has been researching Red Clay. She has documented information that has never been presented before now. The meeting will be held at Hiwassee River Heritage Center, Sunday August 18 at 3 pm.
Shelton is a Ph.D. candidate in the Public History program at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Maryland University College while stationed in Europe as a member of the US Air Force and her Master’s in History from the University of Arkansas. As a Graduate Assistant at MTSU’s Center for Historic Preservation, she works on various Trail of Tears National Historic Trail projects. Her dissertation explores the cultural landscape of Red Clay State Historic Park and the surrounding community. She will be sharing her research on Red Clay this Sunday.
The center is located at 8746 Hiwassee St. in Charleston. The meetings are open to the public and are on a quarterly schedule. Be sure to check out social media for specially scheduled programming such as the International Cowpea Festival and Cook-off, which is set for Sept. 14 and benefits the heritage center with festival proceeds.
