Now that the weather is warm and sunny, it’s the perfect time for outdoor activities! I haven’t been in a while, so I thought my “Rediscovering My Hometown” experience would be the perfect opportunity to go to the Greenway and Tinsley Park.
The Greenway is a great place to get outside and get some sunshine. It debuted in 2001 and now stretches over five continuous miles throughout Cleveland. It’s perfect for cycling, running, or bringing your dog and going on a walk! Walking on the Greenway really allows you to see the beautiful nature that Cleveland and Bradley County have to offer, that might have been missed otherwise. The trails are placed by the streams that run through the city and it’s a great opportunity to see some wildlife, think ducks and geese, up close. But make sure not to get too close!
My friend and I decided to get on the Greenway at Tinsley Park, and I had forgotten how much there is to do! Along with the Greenway, you’ll find softball fields, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a skate park, and two dog parks. A playground and a large pavilion area are great for picnics, reunions, or birthdays. The dog parks, tennis courts, and skate park are all newer additions to the park, and I feel as though they have really helped revive the popularity of the park.
Although it’s not directly in the center, Tinsley Park does a great job of connecting the Greenway. From Mohawk Drive it is only a mile walk, and from Tinsley Park to Raider Drive/Greenway Park it’s only a 1.2-mile distance. Parking at Tinsley is personally an ideal location and I think incorporating it into the Greenway was a great idea!
All along the Greenway path are art pieces that the Greenway Public Arts Committee have placed. We currently have four large sculptures throughout the trails and each sculpture is placed one mile from the other. Each one is unique and fun to look at, but my favorite is the oversized yellow chair called “Sitting Tall” located at Greenway Park. I look forward to seeing what other public art is to come over the next few years to help brighten up the Greenway. The Greenway is looking to expand, first expanding toward Inman Street in 2022 and then the Fillauer Branch at a future date. It’s so nice to see my hometown developing and creating something that everyone can enjoy!
