This is the South, so sports are a huge part of life in our community! Go Team!
We have 28 baseball and softball fields and a soccer complex with ten regulation and 5 micro fields. Cleveland High School just built a fantastic new arena that seats 2700 and can host basketball, volleyball and many other sports. Lee University has an array of state-of-the-art facilities for basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer and tennis. Cleveland State Community College has facilities for basketball, volleyball and baseball. Wrestling is big among our schools and all three local high schools have great facilities and equipment to host matches. There is a new tennis complex being built at Tinsley Park that will include 7 courts, restrooms and a pavilion. Consider booking these venues for special events or tournaments.
Terra Running Company is hosting the second annual Cleveland Half Marathon in May and is building the local event scene for the running community. Last year they welcomed runners from all over the Eastern United States and look forward to growing the event.
The Hiwassee River is perfect for fishing tournaments and water ski competitions. Boating, canoeing and paddle boarding are also fun sports on the water.
Cleveland boasts an ABA approved BMX track as well as a 4-mile mountain bike trail at Johnston Woods with more to come in the future. The region offers many outdoor sports in the Cherokee National Forest with more than 20 bike trails, hiking trails and whitewater canoeing and kayaking. Nearby Harrison Bay State Park also offers mountain biking and water sports.
Golfing is available at Chatata Valley Golf Course and Waterville Golf Course. Cleveland Country Club is a private club, but available for booking special events.
